We are tremendously excited to finally announce the big news! Former MotoAmerica Supersport racer Cory West will hop on a Squid Hunter Yamaha and compete in next month’s Daytona 200. “It’s great to get this opportunity to go after the Daytona 200 win with Squid Hunter Racing this year,” says West. “Everything is falling into place perfectly and I’m looking forward to getting back on the high banks!” The Squid Hunter team is determined to put West on a quality machine that will guarantee a spot on top of the podium. Co-owner and mechanic Jordan Strange is working tirelessly to make sure the brand new Yamaha R6 is ready for success.
Team owner Peter Strack is grateful to have met West through Hawk Mazzotta, who previously instructed Strack in 2009. West has been a professional motorcycle racer since he was 14 years old. In 2008, he began professionally racing for the M4 Suzuki team, now known as Team Hammer. Later that same year, he signed on with the Vesrah Suzuki team, winning three national championships within that three-year run. West then gained employment with Erik Buell Racing, and ultimately raced on their team for two seasons. Opportunities arose during this time that eventually saw West racing at Zhuhai International Circuit in southern China. There, West won back-to-back championships and broke a track record. Today, West owns Froggy’s Moto Tours, a motorcycle tour guide and off-road rental service that explores the twisting back roads of his native Arkansas. The upcoming race will be West's third time competing in the Daytona 200. In order to compete with the talented roster currently lined up, Strack says the team must have the mindset to win. We are greatly looking forward to teaming up with Cory West and putting him on top of the box! You can read the full press release on PR News Wire.
